Giving back to the Community
At Perry’s Emporium, we believe in heavy community involvment. Alan estimates that he’s given away about $1 million in the past 25 years to various charities in the community. “I believe it’s our duty to give back to the community that supports you,” said Alan. “My father never got past the 2nd grade and he didn’t learn how to read until he was in his late 50’s. So the Literacy Council is one of my favorite charities and we’ve been involved with them for more than 20 years.”
Other favorites include Meals on Wheels and First Fruit Ministries. Alan has served on the Board of Directors for First Fruit Ministries for the past four years. Seven years ago, one of Alan’s employees died of a heart attack at age 45. Since then, he and Perry’s Emporium have been involved with and supported the American Heart Association.
Alan also routinely acts as auctioneer for various charities when they are having a live auction as part of their fundraising activities.
